Thought Field Therapy (TFT), also known as Callahan Techniques ®, is a powerful, natural, drug-free, non-invasive, effective, rapid and straightforward technique to alleviate negative emotions such as

A successful treatment leaves you with a feeling of liberation or peace of mind, so you can go home, move on and live your life. It is often referred to as the Power Therapy of the 21st century because of its high degree of effectiveness. TFT involves tapping energy points on the upper body, hands and/or face and specific eye movements to achieve its impressive results. The majority of clients receive complete relief from their suffering, often within minutes. TFT does not erase the memory of what has happened. It simply removes any trace of upset that is associated with it by eliminating the perturbations, the root cause of the problem.
You may have seen Paul McKenna, the well-known hypnotist, successfully perform this technique on stage.
What happens in a treatment?
During an initial consultation we discuss which negative emotion is bothering you right now and work out what the root cause is. I will then ask you to think of your problem, which means you are tuning into a Thought Field. You will be asked to rate the current discomfort on a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the highest level of discomfort and 1 being no worries at all.
Now we can start: I lead you through a sequence of tapping on specific energy meridian points on your body, i.e. you will copy what I am doing while sitting opposite me. No clothing needs to be removed for this treatment. Then I will ask you to think of the problem again and rate your discomfort once more. Has it come down a bit? Does it feel better or is it still the same? Where is it on the scale of 1-10? Depending on how much better your emotion is on the scale, I will show you another set of points to tap on your body. Again, you rate the discomfort on the 1-10 scale and we keep tapping specific points until – in an ideal case – you no longer feel any discomfort at all.
As an example, many people feel their fear in their stomach – nervous stomach, knot in the tummy, stomach pain, or butterflies. The start of the stomach meridian is under the eye. This is only one point that we tap regularly during the treatment. The exact sequence of the tapping all the way through is crucial for success just like a combination lock that won’t open if you just know the numbers but not the correct sequence. Applying the correct ‘code’ for your particular issue at the same time you are thinking of that problem helps eliminate the root cause. Dr Callahan calls the root cause the ‘perturbation’. With the perturbation gone you feel relaxed and have peace of mind. The anxiety has gone. This should have a knock-on effect on everyday life and relationships in the future. It is very much like starting again with a clean slate. The old memory will still be there, but the emotion will no longer be attached to it. When you remember the trigger situation, it no longer affects you.
Does this sound too good to be true? In most cases this is what happens. It is that quick and effective that most clients only need between one and three sessions to deal with the problem they walk in with. Successful treatments leave you feeling calm and relaxed.
In some cases we may come across Individual Energy Toxins (IETs) during or after the treatment. This can hold up a treatment. If this is the case we need to find out which substance is affecting your energy system. It could be something you have eaten, drunk or inhaled, that has disrupted the body’s energetic control system and therefore is preventing the perturbations in certain Thought Fields from being deactivated on a permanent basis. All we need to do is find out what and avoid contact for a while, allowing your energy system to restore itself.
History of Thought Field Therapy
Dr Roger Callahan was a well-renowned clinical psychologist already when he dealt with a difficult client with a severe water phobia in 1980. He had been treating Mary for 18 months with all the tools available to psychology at the time. Following a study of Applied Kinesiology and Acupressure points, he asked Mary to tap a point under her eye whilst thinking of her problem. Much to Dr Callahan’s surprise Mary reported instant relief of that fear of water she had felt so badly in her stomach. Dr Callahan then knew he had discovered something major. It took him a number of years to develop and refine what is now known as Thought Field Therapy (TFT) or Callahan Techniques®. TFT assumes that the physical, emotional and psychological distresses that we face in life are caused by what he terms ‘perturbations’ or imbalances in the body’s subtle energy fields. These perturbations can be corrected by simply tapping on meridian points in exactly the right order to deactivate them for you.
